On a sunny spot just above the quiet village of Eyne sits Cal Pai. At 1600 metres of altitude, it’s surrounded by mountains and farmland. Renovated lovingly over a number of years this is a real home from home, a place you can relax and feel at ease. With a beer in the garden or curled up on one of the old leather sofas the gite oozes good vibes and makes you forget about your worries at home. Eyne is in the Cerdagne, the region which holds the coveted title of the sunniest place in France – a nice thought when it’s grey skies at home!

The food is bought locally and seasonal produce is definitely what it’s all about here. The day starts with cereals, fresh bread, a homemade breakfast cake)  plus homemade jams (strawberry was our favourite, and the lavender scented jams are a must try!). If you’re really lucky her special rice cake packed with dried fruits and spices might even be on offer! The packed lunch includes local cheeses and meats, enough to keep you going through the afternoon’s riding! And finally, dinner: local vegetables, salads, fresh meat, home made tarts, local specialties such as crème catalan and escalivade. All washed down with local French wine. The perfect end to the perfect day…..

If you want to bring non-riding partners and children they can be catered for in the gite and there are plenty of activities to keep them busy whilst you’re out riding. There’s a thermal spa to visit, fantastic walks, a ride on the mountain train or horse riding. Eyne is also right on the border to Spain and Andorra, making day trips into Spain or tax free shopping in Andorra possible.
